5 Foods To Avoid With Fatty Liver Disease

So you've been diagnosed with fatty liver disease. What foods should you avoid?

Fatty liver disease is common. It can affect up to a third of the Australian population.

Fatty liver is increased fat in the liver. And so it seems to make sense that that would be due to eating fat, but that's not actually the case. We now know that carbohydrate intake

plays a bigger part in fatty liver disease than eating fats or protein.

So what are the five foods you should avoid if you have fatty liver disease? And these are foods to decrease. It's very hard to get rid of them entirely.

Number one, sweets. Sugary drinks in particular, we know are high in sugar without much nutritional value. And they put a lot of fat into your liver.

Number two is rice. Although rice is savoury, it does get turned into a sugar to be absorbed.

And therefore it does contribute to fatty liver disease. If you have to have rice, just try to have a bit less or try some of the lower GI rices such as brown rice.

Number three is pasta. Pasta has a high amount of carbohydrate in it, given it's based on wheat. And again, puts some fat into the liver. You don't need to get rid of pasta out of your life, but it's a good idea to have a bit less.

Number four is bread. A staple. Maybe try by having a bit more filling and a bit less bread in a sandwich.

Number five is potato. Potatoes, much like rice, although it tastes very savoury, get turned into sugars to be absorbed and therefore do put a fair

bit of fat into your liver.

So those are the five foods, which are best to decrease when you have fatty liver disease.
